Hardware Setup
Reading Lens Data

Via External Encoders

As a final option, when no other method of reading lens data is available, then the CinCraft External Encoders can be used.

These are a pair of passive encoders for Focus and Zoom only that can be mounted to the lens and will detect the movement of the lens barrel when changes in Zoom and focus occur.

When using External Encoders, it is required to conduct “Lens Homing” whenever the encoders are mounted, or a lens changed. Lens Homing is described in the operation section of this documentation

To setup this configuration:

  • Mount the external encoders to the lens, 15mm or 19mm rod mounts are provided as well as a barrel mount for compatible lenses
  • Ensure the encoder gearing matches the lens gearing, the external encoder kit includes different gauge gearing and can be easily swapped if needed
  • Connect the encoders together, and then connect the 2nd encoder to the Encoders port of the Origin, or the Link if it is being used.
  • If using a Prime lens, then there is no need to mount the zoom encoder.
  • Remember to conduct lens homing prior to using the lens in your project.
